An Exciting Month at CSMFO!

By Karla Romero, City of La Quinta Finance Director/City Treasurer

From spooky skeletons and creatively carved pumpkins then on to home baked goods and turkey carving and holiday lights. I’m not sure how your Halloween night was but mine was eerily quiet and I may have been one of the few who was fully dressed as Superwoman at work. Let’s go back for a moment before we go onward.

Halloween night and not a soul in sight. Kids are on sugar overload eating all the candy in the house and a table sits outside with untouched candy bags never picked up in a neighborhood where an abundant amount of candy always run out. So, we pivot and make it a paint and movie night. Torn between appreciating the social distancing and wondering how the year will end. For many the holidays are already a difficult time. For many, this year they will be the first year celebrating without a loved one lost or being along due to social distancing recommendations. We are all scrambling to get our jobs done but don’t forget to check on your family, friends, and neighbors. A five-minute call could make someone’s day extra special.

For those agencies who had ballot initiatives, after all the ballots are counted, we hope your results are positive and that your Council appointments will be productive to your future endeavors.

A special thank you to all CSMFO Veterans. We honor you on November 11th and recognize your never-ending mission to serve this great country with courage, honor, and great sacrifice.

This month CSMFO will start to provide updates on the upcoming annual conference. Look for articles on conference content including keynote sessions, CSMFO fan favorites, and some fun not to be missed networking opportunities. The annual conference also includes CSMFO Board nominations. The 2021 nomination slate will be announced shortly. Don’t forget to show your support by rocking your vote. We shall also continue to showcase our CSMFO leadership in their own words and bring you educational articles to enhance your government finance skills.

Engage on LinkedIn with CSMFO’s Thankfulness Challenge. Every day in November until the holiday, we’ll post a prompt on our LinkedIn account. Comment on the prompt with your answer (or just use it to help your daily frame of mind). Let’s be grateful for what we have, love and appreciate one another as we round the corner to the end of 2020.

Have a wonderful, safe, and blessed November.
