Janet Salvetti, CSMFO Conference Director

How long have you been with CSMFO, and what’s your role?

I joined CSMFO around 1993 which was the year I attended my first annual Conference. I was “hooked” by all the welcoming and knowledgeable members; then I met the infamous “recruiter” Mary Bradley, and the rest is history. I served on multiple committees, my first being technology chaired by Gary Nordquist, and subsequently was elected CSMFO President in 2005.

I retired from the City of Stockton in 2010 after 40 ½ years. At that time, my friend Teri Anticevich had been the CSMFO Conference Planner for several years. She asked if I wanted to put in a little part time work on the CSMFO Conference. Sounded interesting, and gave me the chance to stay in contact with my work colleagues; fast forward and now for the past several years I have been in the Conference Director lead capacity along with Teri. As we entered the planning for the upcoming 2021 conference we at Meeting and Association Management made the strategic change to put Marisa Anticevich in the lead position (since she was more than ready for the task) as I gradually enter into full time retirement.

What do you like best about your job/with CSMFO?

In no specific order,

  • Being able to stay connected with my colleagues from my working days
  • Continuing to learn the tasks involved in the meeting and conference planning profession
  • Meeting new people with all of the amazing talents they have in the government profession.

What’s your favorite Halloween/scary movie?

I’m not sure if there is a way I can trace the origin of my inability to get through anything scary; so suffice it to say I can’t stand horror or scary movies. I looked it up and I think that means I suffer from pediophobia – an irrational fear of something that poses no actual threat!

So back to the movie…..Wait Until Dark (1967).  It made me actual jump out of my seat in one of the ending scenes.

What was your favorite costume from Halloweens past?

Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz; gotta love those red shoes!

If you had to dress up as a CSMFO staff or leadership member for Halloween, who would you choose and why?

David Garrison because he can transform himself and be anyone he wants to be by adding some makeup and stage presence.  I especially love The Grinch!
