Ernie Reyna, Director of Finance, City of Perris

Each month, it is the goal of this CSMFO newsletter to provide its members with the happenings at the Board level. The actions taken at these meetings can have profound effects trickle into each and every local CSMFO chapter and benefit members in numerous ways.

First on the agenda was a recap of the November Thankfulness Virtual Challenge presented by 2020 CSMFO President Steve Heide and sponsored by PFM. The November challenge was in-line with the spirit of Thanksgiving and the holiday season. Every day in November, CSMFO posted a prompt on its LinkedIn account with the goal of generating as many responses as possible. The individual that responded to the most daily prompts won a donation to their charity of choice and CSMFO is happy to report that there were over 250 unique responses to prompts in 26 days, with 35 people participating! A big congratulations to Heather Ippoliti, Carrie Yu Tam, and Veronica Tapia for being the most engaged during the challenge.

Don’t miss the January 2021 Steps Challenge – back by popular demand. Not only is exercising good for your health and on many new year’s resolutions; it’s also a great way to get to know other CSMFO members and what they are doing.

What would the holidays be without a gift exchange? It was announced that on Thursday, December 17 at 5:00 PM, there would be a gift exchange, but with a twist for those wanting to participate in this fun and festive game. Participants chose a non-profit charity to have money donated to instead of receiving a gift. The holidays are so much fun when you give to others!

If it’s December and end of the calendar year, it must mean we are in the holiday season and time for not only the 2021 operating budget, but also the 2021 conference budget.

Due to the on-going pandemic, this year’s annual conference that was previously scheduled for San Jose has gone virtual. Putting together a budget for a virtual conference is quite a challenge, but President-Elect Marcus Pimentel was up to that challenge when he submitted his budget to the CSMFO Board. The virtual conference is scheduled for February 16-18, 2021 and will have all the usual training opportunities with 48 concurrent sessions during the three-day period. Stay tuned for more information to come from CSMFO.

In addition to the conference budget, President-Elect Pimentel also presented the 2021 operating budget for the upcoming calendar year, along with a discussion on the 2021 strategic plan, which was originally developed during the virtual October Planning Session.

The next CSMFO Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 14 at 2pm via Zoom. Join us.
