Staying Engaged with CSMFO after Retirement (Part III)
Brent Mason, Eide Bailly, Senior Manager
I was fortunate to spend nearly 30 years in municipal government in various managerial roles, most of which was with the City of Riverside. The most recent years were as Finance Director in the cities of Riverside and San Bernardino. I had a wide variety of experiences that kept it all very interesting. It also gave me a depth of experience that serves me today in the “afterlife” of my public sector experience.
I retired early at 53 ½ to assist my wife with our adopted special needs kiddos, but still needed something productive to do professionally. I was given the opportunity to join the accounting firm of Eide Bailly (initially Vavrinek, Trine, and Day before merging with Eide Bailly) and work part-time, which was perfect. I’m a Senior Manager with the firm and do many of the same things I did before I retired, but for different governmental agencies; some on a one-off basis, and others on an ongoing basis. I’m also getting the opportunity now to spread my wings and do these tasks for various agencies in other states as well. The work is very interesting and highly diverse.
One the greatest benefits of my choice is the opportunity to stay connected to CSMFO and continue to see (and sometimes work with) folks I’ve known for decades in our beloved vocational field. What a blessing it, and you all, have been over the last 35 years!! Thank you so much!! ☺☺
