2022 Conference Program Committee Update

- Karan Reid, Program Committee Chair and Director of Finance for the City of Concord

Have you ever wondered how the amazing educational sessions of our Annual Conference are developed?

The Program Committee is responsible for developing the educational content of the Annual Conference. The Committee engages and selects all speakers for the concurrent, early bird and preconference sessions, as well as any others as requested by the President-Elect.

To get ideas for appropriate content, the Committee uses these resources:

  • Prior year Attendee Conference Survey (that’s why these are important to complete!)
  • Hot topics and current events
  • Foundational (core technical) topics
  • Call for Presentations submittals

In April, we launched our planning for the 2022 CSMFO Annual Conference, which is scheduled for February 15-18, 2022 at the Town & Country Resort in San Diego. The conference theme, Discover CSMFO: Exploring Our Financial Future, is especially appropriate, given all of the challenges we’ve faced professionally and personally with the COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to the opportunity to reconnect with you and your colleagues in a critical time to share information and learn from each other.

We are so excited to be planning an in-person event! Spring-boarding off the success of our 2021 virtual conference, we are planning for both an in-person event in February 2022, followed by a more limited virtual event roughly 4-6 weeks later. To accomplish this, we will be recording select concurrent sessions during the in-person conference and then broadcasting those recorded sessions for the virtual event. In order to make the virtual event as rewarding for our members as possible, and to also ensure that those sessions will qualify for continuing professional education (CPE) credits, we are asking that presenters for those recorded sessions also be available for their recorded sessions during the virtual event so that they can respond to questions.

Call for 2022 Conference Presentations opened on May 11 and closes June 30, 2021.

The Committee has a lot of work ahead over the next few months as we develop the educational sessions for another amazing conference. I look forward to seeing everyone in person in San Diego!
