The Leaves Are Changing!
Welcome to October and the final quarter of 2020!!! Yes, I can see 2021 around the corner. We are truly resilient, a pandemic, heat waves, wildfires, CARES Act reporting requirements, evolving State guidance on reopening businesses safely, year-end audits, and so much more in our professional and personal lives; makes us all superheroes.
The September CSMFO Steps Challenge invoked humorous chats and reconnected members with pictures of dogs, cats, beaches, and mountain trails, and included a few friendly jokes. Thank you to all who participated and congratulations to the winners!!!
As this article is being published the CSMFO leadership team is taking a deep dive in a virtual strategic planning session. Normally held in person during the Fall, but in 2020 pivoting to a virtual environment to continue innovating, collaborating, and supporting professional development for all current and future CSMFO members.

Today we showcase our final CSMFO board member spotlight and begin sharing those of Committee Chairs. Also, in October, CSMFO news will invoke spooky creativity, continue to share Chapter highlights, lifetime benefits of being a CSMFO member, and provide you with an array of articles to further your professional development. Be in the know, read the CSMFO board meeting summary from September.
As we end 2020, CSMFO will begin to provide you regular updates on the upcoming annual conference, and opportunities to volunteer and engage with other members. As a reminder, don’t be afraid to raise our hand, or in a virtual world, send an email via the CSMFO website or make a phone call to any CSMFO leadership member if you want to get involved with your CSMFO chapter, a permanent or ad-hoc committee. CSMFO is run by volunteers like YOU.

Karla Romero, City of La Quinta Finance Director/City Treasurer and is honored to serve CSMFO’s Communications Committee Chair. Karla was also CSMFO’s 2017 Volunteer of the Year, Coachella Valley’s Chapter Chair from 2016 to 2019, has been a Communications Committee member since 2017, and a proud CSMFO member since 2007.
She has earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration and has over 20 years of progressive private and public finance experience. She enjoys seeing others succeed, thus her passion for mentoring, sharing knowledge, and empowering others.
On her free time, she enjoys “trying” to garden (getting better), reliving her childhood with a very active son (Titus), and staying connected with family and friends.
