Ernie Reyna, Director of Finance, City of Perris
Sometimes finance professionals seem like ever-changing chameleons, quickly adapting and responding to various surroundings throughout the day.
At CSMFO’s July 23, 2020 Board Meeting, we pushed onward with one eye on current events and the other on long-term fiscal stability. We moved to adapt and support new opportunities in succession planning and training, maintaining professional credentials, enhancing member and student engagement, hosting and participating in webinars, developing new CSMFO articles, and planning for special member engagement events such as chapter meetings, conferences, and Zoom happy hours. All while doing our full-time plus paid jobs. These were all the themes discussed at this last CSMFO Board meeting.
Agenda items included the follow:
- CSMFO was issued a clean unmodified audit opinion for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2019.
- Activities are being developed to maintain membership engagement in our new virtual environment, one of which will include a step challenge through an application called MoveSpring.
- CSMFO continues to closely monitor COVID-19 impacts and guidelines regarding large gatherings such as that required for the annual conference scheduled for February 2021 in San Jose. The host committee is evaluating options to provide training, social experiences, and vendor communication under COVID-19 restrictions. Thank you to the 550 members who responded to the recent conference survey. Your feedback will shape future decisions.
- Progress continues to be made on the 2020 Core Strategies, Goals, and Priority Actions. A summary can be found online. https://s3.amazonaws.com/media.csmfo.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/21151721/CSMFO-2020-Action-Plan-Approved.pdf
- Local chapters go virtual with Sacramento and the Desert Mountain chapter hosting Zoom meetings.
