Our 15 Days of CSMFO News gives to you tips to an inclusive and happy 2020 Finance Department
Fifteen Days of CSMFO News
During our Fifteen Days of CSMFO News, your Communication Committee is glad to share some December gifts for your entire Finance Department.
Once a year we step outside of our technical finance comfort zone and into a potentially anxious space, communication and workplace development. Research shows that although most managers end up spending 70% to 90% of their time with employee communications, most of their strategic training and career development is focused on growing technical operations knowledge.
So we hope you find value in this month’s special features and block some time to reflect on how you might best support setting up your teams for success in 2020.

Days one through five of CSMFO News
We are grateful to introduce you to Michelle Moore (County of Santa Cruz) who provides a framework to create a successful supervisor and manager development academy. The success of their academy over the past two decades lives in their openness to pivot to emerging needs or embrace new opportunities (like focusing on cross-departmental team building). You’ll get insights into the framework of their curriculum how to keep participants engaged, and about their newest program – an 8-Step Coaching model.
We finish on the fifth day of CSMFO News with why you will want to hang around for our Friday 2020 Conference Key Note Speaker and Chief of Play Steve Gross. A CSMFO lifer provides an intimate peak into how he challenged what she thought was the right approach to be a professional.

Days six through ten of CSMFO News
Our President Joan Michaels Aguilar provides the latest News from the North Pole and our GFOA friends in Alaska.
We are also proud to introduce you to Sharon Kropf (Principal at TAP Technologies) who helped us create a special three-part series on getting yourself ready for your next career opportunity. Part One provides essential tips on evaluating your priorities, how to prepare for the promotion or job hunt, including how to leverage social media.
We finish this week on the tenth day of CSMFO News with the latest tips from CSMFO Leaders on how to recharge after a tough stretch and how to balance yourself between your personal and professional roles.

Days eleven through fifteen of CSMFO News
Our President Elect Steve Heide provides the latest must know tips and guidance to maximize your value at the 2020 Annual Conference.
We continue with part two of our three-part series on preparing for your next career opportunity. This second installment dives deep into the interview process from preparation, to developing your own story board and elevator pitch, to thriving on the big interview day.
We conclude our 2019 CSMFO News Publication Year with a special thank you from our President Joan Michaels Aguilar and just how powerful those two words are.
As an additional bonus content, we’d like to remind you of some previous CSMFO articles that are just as relevant today as when they were first written.
